7 healthy habits to keep you healthy, year-round

While younger, you might have started the New Year always hungover. But today, waking up early and feeling fresh sounds pretty heavenly. Plus, wellness warriors, this is a new DECADE and a time for some healthy habits.

2022 is an opportunity to say goodbye to old habits that no longer serve us… and leave them in the decade that’s behind us.

See, how we’re using the word ‘habits’, not resolutions? It’s because we want to help you maintain these healthy habits throughout the year, not just in the exciting first few months. It’s a shift in perspective that brings about positive lifestyle changes.

Okay, are you with us? You’ve GOT this!

Day 1: Set realistic goals (that speak to you)

Who are we kidding? Don’t rush out of bed today, even if you wake up. There’s nothing wrong with starting the new decade with ease and relaxation. Instead of rushing out to the gym or going out for brunch just to ‘feel good’, enjoy a day of thinking, pondering, and exploring your vision for the future.

Grab some highlighters, make a pot of coffee, and map out the person you want to be. This exercise can help you isolate a few gettable goals to keep you motivated, healthy, and fit. Be honest, realistic, and speak from the heart.

It might be as simple as:

  • Exercise Wednesday, Friday and Saturday
  • Cook Monday to Friday. Don’t buy any meals.
  • Start taking dietary support for energy (like Viva+)
  • Eat less meat. Switch to a Mediterranean-style diet.

Day 2: Create rituals to promote those healthy habits

Okay, so let’s say, you don’t want to buy any food on weekdays. You’re aiming to only cook and eat out on weekends. So, what do you need to do to instil this habit? This is what you should think about today. For example, create a shopping list with ingredients for meal ideas. Go food shopping every Sunday afternoon. Do this exercise for all your habits.

Day 3: Share your new healthy habits

Got a friend who loves working out? Is your partner obsessed with protein shakes or acai bowls? Round up your wellness buddies and communicate your healthy habits. You don’t have to tell all of them to everyone, but it helps to voice what you’re working towards. These people will become your advocates.

Day 4: Expect ‘bleh’ days

Once the energy of the New Year has worn off (right about now) and you get busy in the chaos of daily life, you’re going to experience one of these days. You know, where you can’t peel yourself off the bed, no matter what you do. All you want to do is eat chocolate and binge, both on food and Netflix. This is natural. It’s PART of the process. Expect it, plan for these lulls, then get back up. This is where the power of your rituals comes into play, as they do all the heavy lifting for you – conditioning your mind to maintain the habit.

Day 5: Temptation ‘bundle’

So, you’ve got your rituals, which subconsciously lead you into starting the habit. But go one step further and pair an activity that you don’t enjoy with something you love. Make a list of all the things that bring you joy. Does coffee top the list? This can be a ‘temptation bundle.’ You reward a workout with a delicious coffee, afterwards. Create two or three ‘bundles’ for each habit.

Day 6: Don’t diet. Eat Mediterranean.

You don’t need to diet. Thank goodness! Add these Mediterranean foods to your shopping list and follow the advice from scientists. This eating regime helps prevent disease and boosts longevity. The Mediterranean lifestyle focuses on fruits, vegetables and wholegrains. Less dairy and meat, more fish and seafood.

Day 7: Support your diet

You’re doing great! Keep going, you’re making awesome headway. Now, make sure you’re supporting your body with nutrients that it can’t make naturally (like essential Omega-3 fatty acids). Before you start a course of oil or supplements, take the BalanceTest to find out what your Omega-6:3 ratio is. For 95% of people, this is way off (and in fact, in the danger zone for our bodies). After this, you can re-balance your body with these oils.

Doesn’t it feel GREAT to forget diets? With these seven strategies, you’ll be well on your way to thriving and jiving in 2022.

Zinzino Healthy Recipes cookbook for the holiday season

To kick off the holiday season, we decided to create healthy eating recipes as an online cookbook for you to enjoy. A small gift from our Zinzino family to yours.

Firstly, before we jump into the recipes, let’s talk some quick and basic healthy eating tips for this holiday season.

  • Drink enough water. Staying hydrated help with digestion, staying hydrated and may help with energy levels throughout the day/night during this busy season.
  • Eating Omega-3-rich recipes. You probably already know how much we love omegas here, but we can’t express it enough. Eating foods rich in omega-3 have a host of health benefits, including creating beneficial levels for your cholesterol, your heart1, and for your brain2. It may also help with energy levels, the immune system and even boosting your mood. These foods can include salmon, sardines, oysters, chia seeds, walnuts, Brussel sprouts and, of course, don’t forget to take your BalanceOil+.
  • Look after your tummy with gut health recipes. The holiday season can take a toll on the gut as we are eating out more and are indulging more, too. This is your reminder to not forget to take your daily ZinoBiotic+ and adding in some gut health recipes to your day. This can include yoghurt, banana and almonds for breakfast. Ginger and peppermint tea after your meals. Sprinkling olive oil (or R.E.V.O.O) over your fresh salads and having sourdough instead of white bread.
  • Eat slow. When eating your delicious recipes, remember to enjoy each bite. This will help with knowing when you are full and enjoy the taste and texture of each ingredient.
  • Understanding healthy food and meal ingredients. Get to know the ingredients you are cooking with and eating. Understanding if these foods are good for you and if they are a protein, carbohydrate, vegetable, fruit or a sweet treat will help you know the portion sizes you should be consuming for each. Only you will know when your gut is saying ‘no more’ so understanding these foods will help plating up and knowing when to stop.

Now let’s talk about these must-know easy healthy recipes!

This online cookbook has 15 recipes in there that are all designed to help keep you in balance over the holiday season and to be shared with your loved ones.

Now, keeping you in balance with these recipes was the easy part as every recipe has Zinzino R.E.V.O.O in them, plus some have our BalanceOil+. We wanted to make sure Zinzino was included in each recipe as we know how important health is and especially staying in balance over the holiday season.

R.E.V.O.O is an extra virgin olive oil and an extraordinary product and I am going to tell you why. Ever heard of oleic acid…? Me neither! Well, it’s Omega-9, which is one of the most important fatty acids in R.E.V.O.O. Now, let’s compare R.E.V.O.O to standard extra virgin oils. R.E.V.O.O is exclusively made from koroneiki olives that are naturally farmed with no use of fertilizers or pesticides. Which this means that R.E.V.O.O is 30 times higher in polyphenols and has other important bio-active compounds like maslinic acid, squalene, vitamin E, when compared to standard extra virgin olive oils.

Now, isn’t that just a Revolutionary Extra Virgin Olive Oil (R.E.V.O.O)?

The recipes include a range of dips, salads, and the not so healthy desserts, but like we said it’s all about balance. 😉

Enjoy your Zinzino Healthy Recipes cookbook for the holiday season and if you’re whipping these up and sharing them on social media, don’t forget to tag us @ZinzinoOfficial and use the hashtag #ZinzinoInTheKitchen. We can’t wait to see what you’ve cooked up!

How to improve and restore your gut health to feel great over Christmas

The end of the year beckons a slower pace, with more family-centric time. It’s a much-awaited respite from work, meetings, and to-do lists. We spend our time in the company of family and friends, reflecting on the year and envisioning what will follow.

You can immerse yourself in all the charm and warmth, without throwing your health out of balance. Give yourself the gift of improving your gut health (without having to worry about that December bloat).

Don’t wait until the New Year. Follow an ‘eat for my gut’ approach, be conscious about your nutrition, and enjoy the season, guilt-free.

Gut health benefits

A healthy gut is more than just feeling good in Christmas outfits. A healthy gut is essential for a healthy body. Think of gut healing as a garden needing sun, watering, and attention.

The gut responds to a diverse range of fresh, unprocessed foods. This includes foods such as yogurt, bananas, asparagus, and oats. Polyphenols are also important for the gut, as they help to stimulate healthy bacterial growth. Red wine, green tea, dark chocolate, olive oil and whole grains are good sources.

There are plenty of healthy food choices to enjoy a bloat-free holiday season (and prevent an unhealthy start to the year). It’s about swapping out certain foods for better options and feeding the gut microbiome, not just taste buds.

How to improve your gut health, the must-haves & basics

The complex gut requires whole-body health. This includes getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, getting outside (even in the cold), and lowering stress levels. We crave junk food when we’re tired and it’s easy to feel lethargic in the winter. The darkness causes our bodies to produce more melatonin, and consequently, constant fatigue.

Add to this the societal ‘it’s Christmas’ excuse to eat what we like and it’s no surprise we’re overconsuming in the holidays. Prioritize healthy lifestyle habits throughout the year, especially in the cooler months. Follow the 80/20 rule – wholefoods 80% of the time and indulge the remaining 20%.

Gut healing diet plan

To prevent that post-Christmas gut bloat (and napping), load up on nutrient-rich foods.

The goal is to avoid your spiking blood sugar levels. There are a few pillars to promote the growth of bacteria that’s beneficial to your gut health. This includes opting for high-fiber foods such as legumes, oats, apples, carrots, berries, and asparagus. Garlic and onion are also known to be helpful for the gut, as are fermented foods – yogurt, tempeh, miso, and kombucha, for example.

Gut health is directly linked to the well-being of your whole body. Focus on restoring and maintaining your gut health over Christmas with strategic food choices, a good sleep schedule, and daily movement. Small tweaks and a dash of creativity during the holidays can make all the difference.

How to get rid of the holiday bloat this year

The best way to enjoy a bloat-free Christmas is to adhere to a daily gut health routine.
ZinoBiotic+ is a gut-balancing nutritional supplement. It’s blend of eight natural dietary fibers that metabolize in the large intestine, supporting healthy bacteria growth. This vegan food supplement reduces blood sugar spikes post-meal1, balances cholesterol2, promotes healthy bowel functions3, and balances the microbiome, among other gut health benefits.

LeanShake is another pre-holiday supplement that also balances the microbiota for gut health. It features the dietary fiber blend in ZinoBiotic+. LeanShake intuitively ‘feeds’ this microbiota to make up a higher percentage of the population. The strength of LeanShake (and ZinoBiotic+) is the way it stimulates the growth of “good” bacteria in the entire colon. The “good guys” help ferment fibers, produce vitamins, and educate the immune system.

Don’t let the silly season zap your digestive health. Feel good for yourself, look great in front of the family, and start the New Year already rocking your health goals.

How to increase your energy levels over the festive season

Lights, decoration, and carols, but also darkness, low temperatures, and stress. While Christmas means joy for a lot of people around the world, it comes with winter tiredness and a tirade of responsibilities. Finding the best present for everyone, preparing the house for the guests, cooking unforgettable meals, and dealing with indigestion can drain your energy levels.

Want the good news? There are solutions. Feeling tired and depleted of energy happens more often than you think, and in today’s fast-paced, hyperconnected society, the reasons why this occurs are many and varied, yet most of them are related to lifestyle, nutrition, and habits. We have compiled all the information you need so that you can understand what is going on with your body and know what to do to increase your energy levels this Christmas.

What causes tiredness in winter

Snowy landscapes are beautiful, but winter also means fewer days with sunlight, which results in us not getting enough vitamin D, and that may contribute to winter tiredness. As our body identifies this deficiency, our brain may[EA1]  produce more melatonin than usual, which is the hormone that stimulates sleep all year round.

There are other factors that can affect our energy levels, too, such as stress, or screen time, but none of them play such an important role in winter tiredness as lack of vitamin D. So, our first advice is: make sure you keep sufficient vitamin D levels in your body.

Vitamin D & energy correlation (vitamins to help with energy)

Low energy or fatigue is a common symptom of vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is an essential nutrient, contributing to a normal immune system. It supports important functions within the body and helps us regulate the absorption of calcium. Keeping a sufficient amount of vitamin D in our body is important for normal growth and development of our bones and teeth.

Just like sunshine, food can contribute to about 10% of our vitamin intake levels. Aim for egg yolks, oily fish, red meat. However, the nutritional content of our modern diet might not have enough vitamin D. Make sure to get your levels checked on a regular basis to determine if you need to compensate with supplements during periods of the year. ZinoShine+ is an all-natural, vegan vitamin D3 boost in its most bioactive form, using wild-harvested lichen and broad-spectrum magnesium.

Other ways to increase your energy levels during the day are vitamin C, vitamin B (B2, B3, B5, B6, B12), calcium and other nutrients like fiber and iron. Keep reading to find out how to include them in your diet.

Energy-boosting diet

What you eat and drink matter, and not just during the festive season. Aim for an energy-boosting diet, which really is nothing more than a healthy, balanced diet. What kind of food should an energy diet include?

  • Five different fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Legumes, like chickpeas, or lentils.
  • Proteins, which can come from legumes, fish or meat (preferably white and unprocessed).
  • Healthy fats, like avocados, extra virgin olive oil (R.E.V.O.O) and nuts
  • At least 55% of carbohydrates like potatoes, rice or pasta, preferably whole grain.
  • Avoid simple sugars, trans-fats, and processed food.

Foods that give you energy

There are many natural foods you can include in your diet to get that extra boost you need in winter.

When it comes to fruits, bananas are rich in vitamin A, B6, C, potassium and fiber and are a great energy snack. Berries (rich in vitamin C and manganese), avocados (which contain folate, magnesium, potassium, vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6) or oranges (vitamin C) are also a good natural energy source. Continuing with vegetables, spinach (vitamin C, iron calcium, magnesium) and sweet potatoes (vitamin A, B6, C, potassium, and fiber) can also provide you with the antioxidants and nutrients you need throughout the day.

Other foods that can give you energy are nuts like walnuts, almonds or peanut butter. They contain protein, unsaturated fats, fiber, and minerals like calcium and magnesium. But remember to pace your intake as they have many calories. In addition, legumes like lentils and chickpeas, and beans like soybeans will help you maintain muscle mass as they contain protein, folate, iron, fiber, and phosphorus. Finally, some foods of animal origin that may increase your energy are natural yogurt, oily fish, or eggs, which are rich in protein.

It can be a challenge to include everything in the list, and even more so at Christmas! Explore the Zinzino range of test-based, scientifically proven food supplements such as Xtend+ (which contains 22 essential vitamins and minerals), Protect+ (containing vitamins D3 and C), or BalanceOil+ (containing Omega-3 fatty acids and extra virgin olive oil) can help you cover what you don’t get from your diet.

Hydration & energy correlation

There is a correlation between hydration and energy, too. We are made of water (60% of our body), and we need to recover the water we lose during the day to stay hydrated. Something as simple as forgetting to drink enough water can make you feel tired because of dehydration. Make sure you drink between 1.5 and 2 liters per day to get that hydration energy.

Sleep & energy correlation

Good sleeping habits are key to recharging your batteries. Try to aim for around 8 hours per night.

Our advice here is to set up your own wind-down routine one hour or two before going to bed and to try to stick to a regular sleep schedule. Reducing screen time at night will also help you fall asleep. Turn off notifications on your phone to minimize your exposure to the blue light that will keep you awake. Also, avoid the brightest mode on your TV during movie nights.

Staying up later than normal on Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve is a tradition, but in general, try to stick to the same sleep routine to save your energy.

Exercise for energy

Finding an exercise routine is easier said than done, that is why we will begin by telling you what good will come out of it (which is much!). Working out has many health benefits. Moreover, it makes you feel active and energized, and this also helps your sleep. On top of that, you will feel happier as your body produces endorphins when exercising. In fact, research has shown that sport and physical activity can ease symptoms of anxiety and depression.

If you are unsure how to start, visit a gym with a friend and set up an exercise routine together. Check several options, gyms tend to have Christmas special offers on memberships and that always helps! Talk to the gym staff to find out which activities would suit you and how many days you should aim for.

Don’t forget to rest between your workout sessions to prevent muscle fatigue or injuries.

Conclusion

Remember, starting new routines in life takes time and it is a process that requires patience and perseverance. Begin by following the steps we’ve given you here. Your body and mind will thank you!

The Mediterranean diet benefits, explained

Google ‘Mediterranean diet’ and you’ll forget for a moment that it is, in fact, a diet. Popular Mediterranean foods are colorful and Instagrammable, with the recommended division of greens, beans, and meat (and a side of fruit). This eating regime celebrates whole grains, fruits and vegetables, fish, and seafood, and of course, olive oil.

The advantages of following the Mediterranean lifestyle

The Mediterranean lifestyle has a more holistic approach to food and nutrition and the meals are created around plants, not meat. Dairy, eggs, poultry, and seafood are central to healthy Mediterranean food, with red meat consumed occasionally. Olive oil and fish are pillars to this way of eating, dishing up plenty of healthy fats.

The ‘diet rules’ are easy to follow because the food is so good – plates are packed with avocado, salmon, berries, seeds, beans, tomatoes, oranges, and nuts.

Mediterranean diet rules are simple:

  • Daily consumption of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and healthy fats
  • Weekly intake of fish, poultry, beans, and eggs
  • Moderate portions of dairy products
  • Limit intake of red meat.

Olive oil and the Mediterranean diet

Extra virgin olive oil captures the essence of the Mediterranean diet. R.E.V.V.O is an extra virgin olive oil with a concentration of bioactive antioxidants that’s 30 times higher than regular olive oil. Designed to support your journey to better health, R.E.V.V.O provides a full spectrum of natural compounds locked in an Omega-9 oil.

It’s not just a fancy salad topper. R.E.V.V.O contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels1* and protects blood lipids2* from oxidative stress. Power your Mediterranean lifestyle with the most exceptional olive oil there is.

What is a Mediterranean diet, in practice?

This way of eating and living is deeply rooted in tradition and probably conjures up images of long, relaxed meals with friends and family. It’s an important point to address because the diet is really all about sacred shared mealtimes, sourcing local food that’s in-season, being physically active, and living simply. These philosophies carry into daily life, with how you nourish your body.

To eat like a Mediterranean:

  • Aim for 7-10 servings of fruits and vegetables each day
  • Switch to whole grains
  • Use healthy fats, such as olive oil
  • Eat fresh fish twice a week and reduce red meat intake
  • Enjoy dairy, such as low-fat Greek yoghurt
  • Add spices instead of salt.

Healthy Mediterranean recipes & food inspiration

For breakfast, treat your heart (and tastebuds) to smashed avocado, with smoked salmon and poached egg, on wholegrain toast. Dash it with a handful of microgreens.

Now, for lunch, cook falafel balls, and place with green beans, whole-wheat couscous, crumbled feta cheese, olives, and topped with tahini sauce.

Then, at dinner, continue the colorful plate trend with shrimp and leek spaghetti. It’s light, lemony, and gives you fiber and Omega-3s.

Speaking of essential fatty acids, Omega-3s are extremely important to your health (and your body doesn’t naturally produce them). Support your Mediterranean eating plan with Zinzino’s Omega-3 Balance Products.

This fish and olive oil synergy delivers 15 EFSA-approved health benefits, including normal brain3, heart4 and immune system5 function. Take the Omega-6:3 ratio test first and review your results after 120 days.

Siesta time! Although you won’t get those 3.00pm slumps, quite like you used to. Power your body with the healthy, delicious Mediterranean diet… with a side of Zinzino’s BalanceOil+ and R.E.V.O.O.

What is personalized nutrition? Better health for the future of humanity

As a society, we’ve never had more living options. We’ve also never been more stretched for time. We all have our individual responsibilities with work, parenting and relationships – and the same can be said for health. There are recommendations that we can all benefit from, but this is where they should stay – as suggestions, not guidance to live by.

With an abundance of food options and trends, ways to exercise, biohacking tips and wellness devices, we have every opportunity to live healthy, fulfilling lives. The key is discerning what to embrace… and ignore.

Why nutrient absorption varies person-to-person

Personalized nutrition prescribes customizing dietary advice to improve health, with custom dosing based on an individual’s specific needs. A family could eat the same three meals and respond differently. We must consider genetics, eating habits and preferences, metabolisms, weight, wellness goals, movement, and any ailments. Wearable devices and apps have helped us see that we’re all on our own path when it comes to health – and the more we know, the better our decision-making is.

Nutrigenomics: how your genes impact nutrition

There is no ‘perfect’ diet. While there certainly are dietary suggestions that help us live better (the Mediterranean lifestyle for example), the ‘perfect’ eating plan doesn’t exist. That’s the whole point of optimizing nutrition – it’s tailored to the individual.

When we realize this as a culture, we’ll stop chasing the next ‘best’ thing that promises to help us reach our physical goals.

We need to turn our attention to our specific, unique genetic makeup. The ‘one-size-fits’ all approach isn’t working. Now’s the time to make a real change in our lives, by leveraging health products that offer customized treatments. To take the confusion out of healthy living and become our own dieticians, trainers, and cheerleaders.

Nutrition response testing & nutrition optimization

Beyond the diet, the personalized nutrition approach can also be adopted for vitamins and customized food supplements. We’re moving into an exciting era where it’s never been easier to make decisions based on personal needs and lifestyle goals.

The global health and wellness brand Zinzino has been at the forefront of shaping the future of personalized nutrition for over a decade.

Leveraging active nutrients from food to fight imbalances in our bodies, Zinzino’s range is the synchronicity of nature and science with pure, test-based products. There’s no better example of personalized nutrition than BalanceTest and BalanceOil+.

95% of people living with a body that’s out of balance (too much Omega-6 and not enough Omega-3 essential fatty acids). These products aim to harmonize and balance the body, with 15 EFSA-approved health benefits.

Real change starts on a cellular level, deep inside our bodies. There is no template for this, only a personalized strategy. BalanceTest is an independent, at-home dried spot test that accurately determines an individual’s fatty acid profile. BalanceOil+ is the subsequent treatment that gently readjusts the Omega-6:3 ratio, naturally, within 120 days.

Personalized nutrition tests & scientifically proven, natural supplements

A new standard is forming in the world of health and wellness. We’re an informed culture, with high expectations for our products, a curiosity for what’s inside, where it’s sourced from, and how we can better our lives. We require wellness products that are natural, but also do what they say – with a strong, ethical track record.

With our own needs, biological makeup, preferences and beliefs, there’s only one way forward: taking radical ownership of our own health. Personalized nutrition, premium test-based products and listening to what our bodies are telling us (over external noise) is the future.

Take the BalanceTest to start the journey to bring your body back into balance.

How fish oil & Omega-3 benefits overall well-being

Of all the dietary support available today, fish oil is one of the most widely used and enjoyed supplements. It’s especially common among people who don’t consume much seafood in general, as well as pregnant women. However, given the fact that the body doesn’t naturally make the Omega-3 essential fatty acids, everyone can benefit from taking these nutritional supplements.

Fish oil is essential

As the name suggests, this oil is the fat extracted from fish tissue, rich in Omega-3s, which include EPA, DHA, and DPA. The modern western diet contains more Omega-6 than Omega-3, which may distort the all-important ratio of fatty acids. The benefits of Omega-3 can’t be emphasized enough as our bodies need essential Omega-3 to function normally.

Fish oil is good for cholesterol and lower blood pressure

Omega-3’s EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart1, the maintenance of blood triglyceride levels2, and blood pressure3.

Beyond cardiovascular health, Omega-3 supports the maintenance of normal brain function4 and vision5. Heart, brain, and eyesight protection, alone, is a reason enough to take fish oil. Zinzino’s BalanceOil+, however, makes it non-negotiable.

BalanceOil+ is based on a scientifically certified measure of pure fish oil, pre-harvest extra virgin olive oil and naturally sourced Vitamin D3. Designed to gently restore the body’s Omega balance, adjust, and maintain EPA and DHA levels, and protect cells from oxidative stress6, this is so much more than fish oil.

Omega-3 helps more than the heart, brain & cell health

It helps maintain blood calcium levels7, normal bones8, muscle function9, teeth10, cell division11, and immunity12. Better still, oleic acid gives additional support to the heart, with the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels13.

Enjoy all 15 EFSA-approved health benefits, with a simple daily dose of BalanceOil+ (that’s based on an individual’s BalanceTest results).

To maximize fish oil health benefits, quality matters

The Zinzino BalanceOil+ range contains sustainably sourced fish oil derived from small pelagic fish such as anchovies, sardines, and mackerel, rich in Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. The product is certified by Friend of the Sea, the global certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment. It means that the fish oil is natural, molecularly tested for toxins to guarantee safety, freshness, and unparalleled purity. However, all high-quality, pure Omega-3 supplements go through a refining process that does not only rid the fish oil from contaminants, the polyphenols are lost, too. These powerful micronutrients packed with antioxidant capacities are naturally found in oily fish to stabilize oxidation, optimize absorption in the body and make sure the Omega 3’s get to work in the cell membranes of your body.

Extra virgin olive oil optimize absorption

Polyphenols from pre-harvest antioxidant-rich olives are the closest you’ll get to the ones found naturally in fish, and Zinzino was one of the first brands to add this antioxidant-packed ingredient to their scientifically proven formulation. The unique formulation of the Zinzino BalanceOil+ range is a synergistic blend based on 60% pure fish oil from wild-caught small fish and 40% cold-pressed, extra virgin olive oil with polyphenols from pre-harvest olives and Omega-9.

Every body is different and the level that your body will absorb the Omega-3 supplement also depends on individual factors, such as your weight, your stomach acid levels, gene type and even certain allergies. The Zinzino BalanceTest will reveal your unique fatty acid profile and guide you in choosing Omega-3 supplements that work with your body. Make sure to pick one such as BalanceOil+  that is safe, natural, and where serving sizes can be customized to your individual fatty acid profile.

How to take your Omega supplement

With the incredible health benefits from Omega-3, it’s important to be strategic about your intake. From supporting normal brain1 and heart function2, to maintaining healthy vision3 and blood pressure4, upping your Omega-3 is one of the best tools in your health arsenal.

Fish and other natural Omega-3 sources should be your first option to capture these benefits. However, it might be difficult to gain the appropriate amount of this essential nutrient through food alone and you might need to support your nutrition by taking supplements.

BalanceOil+ is Zinzino’s hero in its test-based personalized nutrition strategy. The Polyphenol Omega Balance food supplement, high in olive polyphenols and Vitamin D3. A pure, non-GMO blend of oils derived from wild-caught small fish and pre-harvest, extra virgin olive oil, it supports normal immunity5, protection against oxidative stress6, as well as healthy blood calcium levels7, bones8, muscle function9, teeth10, and cell division11.

Use BalanceOil+ to improve your health with natural, science-based nutrition products that are customized to your body. Empower your health by using fish oil in your daily routine. As it is a liquid food supplement, there are endless ways to take your BalanceOil+.

15+ EFSA-approved health benefits, without the fishy taste

Gift your body 2,500 mg of Omega-3 (of which 1,300 mg EPA, 700 mg DHA and150 mg DPA) and 700 mg of Omega-7 for every 12ml serving… Here are five of the most popular ways to balance your body from within, without compromising on flavor.

On its own

Get your nutrients in on an empty stomach as soon as you wake up. Just pour your dose into a glass and take it, while the coffee machine is heating up. It feels good knowing you’re starting the day having already done something good for your health.

As a #BalanceShot

Prefer to get your food supplements out of the way, first thing in the morning? Put your bottle of BalanceOil+ right next to the coffee machine so you don’t forget. While you’re preparing your first cup, pull out the shot glass and take your daily dose – 1/3 BalanceOil+ and 2/3 water or juice for the perfect #BalanceShot

In an Omega-3 smoothie recipe

If smoothies are your breakfast preference, add your BalanceOil+ dose as one of your ingredients. When it comes to vitamins for smoothies, the options are endless. BalanceOil+ perfectly complements any fruity or nutty concoction you whip up.

The Zinzino community loves to use turmeric, kale, spinach, blueberries, strawberries, Greek yogurt, lemon, cucumber, banana, orange, ginger, cayenne, chia, flaxseeds, avocado, beetroot, apple, oats, cacao, mint, and carrot. Put your bottle of BalanceOil+ with your smoothie ingredients. This is the easiest way to pack all these nutrients in, as well as the 15+ BalanceOil+ health benefits.

With water, juice or kombucha

Start your day with a glass of lemon water, juice, kombucha or just water (and AquaX or BalanceOil+). AquaX is in the BalanceOil+ family of products but differs with its AquaCelle® ingredient – a self-micro-emulsifying delivery system  – which dissolves in water. Enjoy better texture, taste and absorption compared to other Omega-3 products. Pour your specific BalanceOil+ dose, mix it with your favourite drink. You’ll forget there’s fish oil in it.

In softgels

Sometimes, it’s more convenient to group all your food supplements together. Take Essent+, the softgel version of BalanceOil+. The naturally sourced ingredients even extend to the casing, as the capsules are made from fish gelatin. There are a couple of standout ingredients in Essent+ compared to the liquid supplement – cacao powder and pure anchovies, a triglyceride concentrate that contains 85% EPA and DHA.

You’ll likely create your own ways to consume BalanceOil+ or Essent+, but this list is a good place to start. Take the guesswork out of healthier living. Decide when you’d prefer taking your fish oil, morning or afternoon, then pick your ingredients to make it a fun part of your daily routine. Find your balance and stick to it.

Why you should test your vitamin D-levels regularly

It’s called the sunshine vitamin for good reason. The sun is our most natural source of vitamin D, and we can produce up to 80% of this essential nutrient this way. But do you know how much of it your body actually soaks up from the sun? Factors such as lifestyle, age, sunscreen routine, skin type and even where you live may impact your body’s ability to spark that vital synthesis. Our individual Vitamin D needs are unique, and they are not constant. This is why we should monitor our levels throughout the year to stay on top of our health.

So, what causes vitamin D deficiency?

Today, low vitamin D levels is a major health problem worldwide with more than one billion people reported as vitamin D deficient, according to the US National Institutes of Health. Lack of exposure to direct sunlight is a key factor. Did you know that we need to sit in the sun for at least 15 minutes to start producing vitamin D? And that is if we have fair skin. For those of us with darker skin, we need up to 6 times more sun exposure. Also, if you’re living in the Northern hemisphere, you’re pretty much unable to make any vitamin D from the sun at all between October and March, according to the New England Journal of Medicine.

Food will also top up our vitamin D levels, but this source can only meet approximately 20% of our daily requirements. Additionally, the nutritional content in most of the food we eat today is coming up short on vitamin D. It is also a fat-soluble nutrient. The more weight we carry, the more vitamin D our bodies need to consume and produce to maintain sufficient levels in our blood.

What happens if you don’t get enough vitamin D?

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient that contributes to a normal immune system. It helps the body absorb calcium, maintain bone health, muscle function, teeth, and cell division. Vitamin D deficiency is many times a silent condition which most of us are not even aware of. The clinical picture includes muscle weakness, bone pain and fractures, rickets and osteomalacia. Having a better understanding of our individual vitamin D needs and how to keep the levels steady can be a game-changer for our overall health and wellbeing. And we should never underestimate the power of exercising outdoors. Time outdoors will increase our chances to produce vitamin D naturally and consequently, counteract the negative effects of a deficiency.

Is there a home-test for vitamin D deficiency?

Our bodies are unique, and our health is a very personal matter. This is particularly true when it comes to our vitamin D needs as they depend solely on who we are, where and how we live, as these factors determine how our bodies respond to the sun. However, being in in-tune with the status of our body is easier said than done. There are tools available to help us keep track of our vitamin D levels and make sure we’re not putting our health at risk. Given the growing rates of vitamin D deficiency in the global population, more and more doctors and health practitioners are now screening their patients regularly. There are also an abundance of vitamin D self-tests on the market for those of us without access to preventive healthcare, who want to be on top of – and in charge of – our own health.

What should you look for in a vitamin D test?

Make sure you get your vitamin D status from a reliable source. Choose a brand that will analyze your dried blood spot samples in an independently managed, confidential, laboratory setting. Also, make sure you will get help to customize your intake with personal recommendations based on your needs.

A unique, vitamin D and broad-spectrum magnesium food supplement with easy-to-customize dosing that allows you to top-up your levels naturally with vegan vitamin D3 from highly bioactive, wild-harvested lichen.

How long does a vitamin D-test take?

Zinzino will also give you recommendations on how to gently adjust and maintain your vitamin D status throughout the year. You should re-test your status every 120 days to make sure you are within an optimal range. At zinzino.com you can find out more on how to test your vitamin D levels in a safe environment with the most accurate results available on the market today.
