How to get smooth skin & improve elasticity

By Zinzino

Most people associate aging with wrinkles, but there’s a lot more to it. Youthful skin is hydrated, smooth, strong and elastic. To understand elastin function, for example, we must first explore what causes aging.

The two biggest offenders are sun damage and environmental triggers. Pollution and poor diet all impact the acceleration of skin aging. Everyone ages at different rates and lifestyle choices can either speed it up or slow it down. This means we have more power than we realize to intercept the aging process.

And there’s two important ‘gatekeepers’ to keeping your skin young, for longer: Elastin and collagen.

What is elastin & its important role?

Elastin is a stretchy protein found in connective tissue and skin. Elastin fibers enable the skin to resume its shape after movement (stretching or contracting). It’s the important component in the skin that brings it back to its position when it’s pulled or pinched. Elastin gives it bounce while collagen provides strength.

Less spring in our skin leads to fine lines, which many of us start to notice first. The skin, our largest organ, requires elastin to remain pliable and firm.

Because the aging process is caused by both internal and external factors affecting the dermis (inner layer) and epidermis (outer layer), fighting aging takes a multi-faceted approach – a high-powered, natural skincare regime, sun protection, a nutritious diet and regular exercise. This helps increase the rate of cell turnover, protects against moisture loss, and contributes to the harmonious marriage of elastin and collagen. The extracellular matrix (ECM)

Both elastin and collagen are created by fibroblasts in the dermis – the second layer of the extracellular matrix (ECM), a mesh of microfibers. Effective anti-aging treatments systematically target this specific part to minimize the skin losing elasticity.

By rebuilding the matrix, the skin becomes smoother, softer, and hydrated. Hyaluronic acid is another compound found in the ECM, which helps the skin retain moisture. This maintains its softness, suppleness, and plumping effect. When the skin is hydrated, there’s an increase in cell production as it’s not occupied seeking moisture. This leads to smoother, more youthful skin.

By targeting the ECM (and the elastin, collagen and hyaluronic trio), you’re going straight to the source of what causes wrinkles.

Zinzino Skin Serum

New discoveries have highlighted the role of the ECM, and the functions of the skin’s immune system have led to the breakthrough formula, the Zinzino Skin Serum.

The extracellular matrix determines the skin’s strength, elasticity, thickness, and its ability to retain moisture. As such, this two-pronged anti-aging treatment increases that all-important skin elasticity.

The matrix is constantly being broken down and rebuilt. A daily regime of Skin Serum and BalanceOil+ can help keep the ECM resilient, as well as the skin it supports. A unique group of nutrients make up Zinzino’s Skin Serum, which work to reduce matrix breakdown, regenerate it, and provide the cells in the skin what they need to function optimally.

Copper peptides, for example, signal the matrix to produce more microfibers (like elastin). Natural moisturizers such as shea butter, sunflower oil (Heliantus annuus) and the extract of red algae Chondrus satisfy the skin’s hydration needs.

And, BalanceOil+
